The City Council adopted alternate side parking (WCC 6-2-3F) in 2018 to assist with roadway maintenance such as snow removal, leaf pickup, and sweeping. This concept was developed to manage the challenges that are created by parked vehicles, primarily to help with snow removal by allowing plows to clear snow all the way to the curb line. However, it also assists with leaf pickup and street sweeping.
Starting October 1st through April 30th, from 5:00 am to 5:00 pm, residents and visitors are required to park on the EVEN side of the street - on EVEN calendar days; and park on the ODD side of the street - on ODD calendar days. Alternate side parking does not apply to all streets in town. Streets with existing parking regulations do not fall under the alternate side parking regulations. For example: any street posted as NO PARKING ANYTIME on one or both sides; streets in the downtown district where no parking is permitted from 2:30 am to 6:00 am; and streets with angled or head in parking on one or both sides.
What happens if is snows in the middle of the night? Alternate side parking begins at 5:00 am EVERY MORNING, regardless of whether it snows or not. Therefore, you should plan to park or move your vehicle after 5:00 pm each day to the side of the road where it will be permissible to park the following day.
Vehicles will only be towed after multiple citations, or after a significant snowfall. However, if you believe your vehicle was towed, you can call the Police Department at 863-2420 (ext. 2).
