Boat leaving City Beach

The proposed work involves the extension of the existing City of Whitefish Beach Boat Ramp by approximately 25 feet. The proposed work generally includes the installation and maintenance of a cofferdam, dewatering and associated equipment, compliance with all secured permits, daily turbidity logs, erosion and sediment control best management practice devices, lakebed excavation, placement of new rip rap and concrete boat ramp panels, removal and replacement of several signs and bollards, the installation of a new gate, and other miscellaneous improvements.

The project also includes the reconstruction and widening of the existing AIS Check Station drive lane located west of the inspection station. The proposed work generally includes roadway excavation and placement of new fabric, gravel, and asphalt, new curb and gutter, a new bollard, new signs, new pavement markings, compliance with all secured permits, erosion and sediment control, topsoil and hydroseeding, and other miscellaneous improvements.

The City selected Civil Solutions, Inc. to complete civil engineering and assist the City with project management, public involvement, and permitting. To date there have been four public meetings, including Lakeshore Protection Committee, Park Board, Community Development Board, and City Council. The City also met with Whitefish Lake Institute during the planning process to mitigate any potential adverse impacts to water quality during construction.

The project was advertised for bid in August 2025 and was awarded to JD Thinning, Inc. in September 2025. Construction will take place from late September through late October 2025.
